Lund to Halmstad - 150kms

Ride of Hope Day 1

We woke when we should have, we ate breakfast at the appointed time, we were dressed and groomed for action according to plan BUT, it doesn't matter how meticulously you plan, you can never account for every eventuality. So when our driver tried to move the inflatable portal and stuck his fingers into the fan that was filling the said portal with air, a slight air of panic set in. But just a slight air ....

The positive part was that we were outside Lunds Akademiska Hospital, so Walle was quickly swabbed, cleaned and bandaged, but it left us a driver short for the coming week. Arrangements would need to be made.

The ride through to Åstorp was good and steady. We were greeted by Cissi who had a happy smile in the good weather. On our way out from Åstorp Andy was holding his bike with one hand and a footpump in the other. Calling over "You go, I'll catch up!"

ROOKIE MISTAKE #1 was a fact.

Andy didn't know which way we were going, so the next 2½ hours were spent with me chasing back and forth across Skåne stopping to make calls or receive them and try to ascertain just where Andy was. Finally we caught up with eachother: I had stopped to make yet another call, looked behind me and saw on the road I had just turned off Andy pacing behind the Mechanics van. I hung up and turned the bike around. In the wrong gear and going uphill I couldn't get my shoes into the pedals properly. 50 meters from the road and Andy bombs past, I shout, scream, blow my whistle, but he hears nothing and they're gone. I phone the Mechanic, Pelle Boa. 3 mins later they arrive back and we head off together for Hallandsås.

Once at Margretetorp we start catching up riders in our group. The hill up to Hallandsås is about 6% and lasts for roughly 8 kms. At the top, Cissi was there again. Everyone regrouped we then proceeded the last 35km to Halmstad. At last, finally there, we greeted the last group in, settled and chatted with eachother before heading off to the the Hostel we would be staying in for the evening.

We ate McDonalds this evening
